Ocular ultrasound (ultrasonography)

The same as ultrasound performed in other medical specialties, but using a smaller probe. Equipment ocular ultrasound has a higher frequency and therefore allows the reproduction of images of high index of reliability of the retina and posterior vitreous cavity.

USE: Evaluation of the vitreous cavity and retina in cases of opacity of ocular media that do not allow direct visualization.

Retina Fluorescein angiography

It is the taking of photographs of the retina (fundus) with contrast injection intra-venous (fluorescein sodium - does not contain iodine) and dilation of the pupil with eye drops. Even being an invasive procedure, it needs to inject drugs intra-venous, has a satisfactory margin of safety, and rare adverse reactions, but allergic reactions may occur.

There will always be a period of elimination of contrast in the urine of which will be dark yellow for 12 to 24 hours. The skin also takes on a yellowish tint during the period of disposal.

USE: To evaluate the retinal circulation and NO and anatomical changes of the retina.

OCT

Optical Tomography

The OCT examines the layers of the central retina and optic nerve. It is performed by a computerized system using light waves, so no radiation.

The waves pass through the dilated pupil without any risk to patient health.

The images are captured and processed by the device providing details of the anatomy that allow retinal dignostics of a very large number of diseases of the retina.
 

 

 

 

 

USE: Assists in the diagnosis and monitoring of macular diseases such as macular degeneration related to age, diabetic retinopathy, pre-retinal membranes and macular hole.

 

Retina Angiography


It is the taking of photographs of the retina (fundus) without any special prepare only dilation of the pupil with eye drops.

Retina Indocyanine Green

It is the taking of photographs of the retina (fundus) with the need for contrast injection intra-venous (indocyanine green - contains iodine) and dilation of the pupil with eye drops. Even being an invasive procedure, it needs to inject drugs intra-venous, has a satisfactory margin of safety, and rare adverse reactions, but allergic reactions may occur.
